Dry suit here we come

My First Ever Dry Suit Dive!!! (At 10 at Night!)

Hi everyone!
I’m 10 years old, and this is the story of my VERY first time trying a dry suit. It was super crazy and funny and a little bit upside-down. 😂

So, it all started at 8 to 10 at night when I went with my daddy to do a dive. We met a man named Karl. He was really nice and kept calling me “Aurora,” which made me feel like a real diver.

Getting Into the Dry Suit

I was trying to get into my dry suit and guess what?
It was WAY too big.
Like… baggy-sleeves-too-big and air-bubbles-everywhere too big.

But the best part?
ALL my gear was pink!
My fins, my mask, everything. I was basically a pink diving marshmallow. 🩷

A nice lady helped hold me so I didn’t fall over while Daddy zipped me up.

First One in the Pool!

I got into the pool first and immediately started floating around like a balloon that got lost at a birthday party. I kept going up… then down… then sideways… then UPSIDE DOWN.

For at least 30 minutes I was mostly upside down.
Not on purpose.
Just… because the dry suit said so. In a drysuit you have air so I had moved and the air  got trapped by my feet.

Switching Fins & Still Floating

My pink fins weren’t working right, so I got new white fins. They helped a TINY bit, but I still kept popping up like a popcorn kernel.

I would go down…
and 20 seconds later—BOOP—back up again.

Trying a Different Dry Suit

Then I tried a second dry suit, but this time my feet were too big for it.
So that didn’t work either.

But I did do a fin pivot, which is a skill where you stay balanced on your fins. I also had to kind of rescue myself from floating upside down again… which should totally count as a skill too. 😂

Last 15 Minutes

For the last part of the night, I just went in the pool in my swimsuit instead. No floating, no upside-down-ing. Just swimming.

When we got out, I tried to help pack up, but they said we could go home to bed because it was so late.

And that was my first dry suit night!
I didn’t really “dive,” but I sure did float a LOT.
